You can only learn it from your Zanpakuto Spirit, sure, but it's that's probably because there's some connection between the Zanpakuto Spirits of the Shiba Clan - Engetsu and Zangetsu are "Scathing Moon" and "Slaying Moon" respectively and Getsuga Tensho is "Moon Fang Heaven Piercer", so the moon is obviously a motif here. So if the Getsuga Tensho is a Shiba thing, the Final Getsuga Tensho must also be one because it isn't tied to the Shinigami's Zanpakuto Spirit. He lost his Shinigami powers to protect her, remember? And he only gained them again when Ichigo awoke his Hollow powers against Byakuya.Īs far as why being a Noble House would mean the Final Getsuga Tensho is exclusive to those of the Shiba Clan, I mean it's called the Final Getsuga Tensho for one and Isshin showed that Getsuga Tensho isn't actually Ichigo's Shikai ability at all because it's a thing he can do as well with his sword still in its sealed form.
